This is a good question. I personally don't have a problem with David owning
the name, or anyone else that is an active leader for that matter. Other
communities have created a legal structure that owns the community assets,
such as the Apache Software Foundation. That might be the better answer in
the long term.

The gain is a larger community of active developers who feel that their
contributions are appreciated.
