Who ignored you?
I know you didn't want "Combo" names, that doesn't mean I have to
agree with you.
As you can clearly tell, Coral is NOT leading the vote at the moment.
Some filters were applied, some others were not. Are we supposed to
disallow any suggestion given the off chance that someone doesn't
agree with it being up for vote?
You made your point, you were heard. You didn't try to affect the
outcome in a way that mattered. Since the merge, I have been sad to
see that you have mostly been standing on the sideline taking potshots
at any attempt to do something. What happened to working together for
the best of the community?
I understand you are frustrated, but you have not made any real
attempt to get involved. How many posts on the forum have you made,
compared to the same amount of time on the compiz forum a few months
ago?
We have a common core now. The fact is that Beryl was immensely
successful in ways Compiz was not. Is it not a good idea to go with
what made Beryl successful to create a strong community, instead of
just putting all that aside?
I understand it's hard to work together given the amount of fighting
we've been doing the last 8 or so months, but we're all (fairly) grown
up, and should be able to put our differences aside and admit the
strong sides of each project. And exploit this unique opportunity to
make something great.
Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither will this project. But we ARE
making progress.
If you are unhappy with the progress, you have to realise a few things:
1. You are not the leader.
2. You are not always right
3. Neither is anyone else.
So that leaves us in a position where we have to cooperate to lead. We
all know David doesn't want to get involved except with core. We have
to deal with that.
It's also a fact that most of the Beryl developers are mostly on the
same level: We don't by any means always agree, but we were somehow
able to reach an agreement nevertheless. How did we do that?
Compromise.
And hard work.
The settings system is a result of both. Beryl-settings was a huge
success for the most part (ask users). It had it weaknesses, but there
wasn't anything better available. So we played on that. Is it a
solution we have to live with? No. If you have an idea of a better way
to do it, and the means to get it done, then the "ccs" can get
"replaced". However, I'm not seeing any real alternatives AT THIS
MOMENT. And this is not me speaking as a developer, but as a user.
Instead of always telling each other what we are doing wrong, we
should focus on what we are doing right and what we can do better...
To quote a movie: "Do you know the best way of influencing someone?"
"Don't try.".
If you tell the developer(s) of whatever code you are unhappy with
what you like, and some suggestions on what you'd like to see done.
Then chances are you'll get a far better result. So far, I'm not
seeing that from you. And notice here that respect is CRUCIAL (I'm one
to speak, I guess).
Roico; I know you're not trying to make things hard. I know you want
the same thing as we do. Why don't you let everyone else see that side
too?
