But that is part of the problem, it is becoming increasingly difficult to work
out what compcomm is or is going to be.
Is it a separate project that just happens to need compiz to work or is it
simply a compiz extension or set of extensions?
I think the name needs to reflect that.
I see it as a compiz extension/add-on which is why I've been promoting names
like compiz fusion and compiz extreme because they imply that the project
enhances compiz, rather than being a different version.
Even Compiz Plus would make for a better, more descriptive name than a
standalone name (coral etc) IMO.
It also does away (hopefully) with the fanboy wars that will surely happen if
they are seen as separate.
Instead of using one project or the other, users would be seen as simply using
compiz or compiz enhanced.
There have been arguments that using compiz in the name would upset many beryl
users but I don't believe that is so, most people were using beryl because of
the flash and bling and they will be using compcomm for the same reasons and
beryl will soon be forgotten.
I have been using beryl for a while and preferred it to compiz but I have no
problem with compiz name being used at all.
The beryl devs may have more issues with this (though after talking to many of
them in irc a while back I don't believe so).
But I think any name decisions would be better controlled by the people
working on the project. I think they should be the ones choosing a name or
at least drawing up a shortlist of names they find acceptable then putting it
up for the vote.
At the moment the naming process has descended into chaos and getting nowhere
and I can't see users agreeing on anything because many are assuming new name
today = release tomorrow and so seem willing to agree to anything that seems
the most popular.
Look at elections for example. People are given a small choice of people to
choose from, can you imagine what would happen if the people were allowed to
put anyones name forward?
(Well, the end result might be better but that's not the point)
