Dear RYX,

There was a need to apologise to you, because I wanted to be clear that I have
nothing personal against you, and that you deserve courtesy and
respect as much as anybody else.

But, RYX, you ARE aggressive, however motivated. You have said things many
times which are rude, insulting and dismissive - especially about users. Not
that everyone hasn't been unpleasant to each other on here - but to say such
unpleasant things about your users and community contributers, in effect your
"customers" thats really not good.

I also find it very disconcerting the way you say nasty and provocative things
in your talking with people and then just stick a "smiley" on the end of it.
If that is your "sense of humour" then I suggest it might be good to keep to
the facts of your arguments and leave the humour to a less delicate time.

RYX, thoughout this whole debate you have continually tried to close down,
restrict, redefine, dismiss, confuse, invalidate or distract from any "open
discussion" that doesn't go in the direction you want. Every time is is swamped
by the same voices: you, Mike D, and recently (your "example" of an ex-beryl
user) delfik.

Yes, you did start posting in the OpenCompositing forum, around the time of the
"name poll", you argued fiercely against and then got it voided. All your
postings were aimed at hammering home your point of view, having the effect of
brow-beating anyone who disagreed to give up I wouldn't be surprised if many
people decided not to add their voice to the conversation for fear of your
comeback.

RYX, perhaps 99% of users don't seem to care about these matters because of
this endless hostility, not because they aren't interested?
Why do you continually underestimate the public, and dismiss them?
Your involvement with and "contribution" to the OC forum was mostly to argue
how it was not needed.

And also I note that anything not involving your forum is ALLWAYS a "waste of
time", yet modifications or redesigning of your forum are ALWAYS "easy" and
"should be no problem".

It was a practical and peaceful gesture to lock Beryl and open the neutrally
named "OpenCompositing" as a stepping stone to agreement. It is also vastly more
used in short time than your longer established one. No-one was forced to go
there. Opencompositing has a clear link to Compiz.org, the reverse is not true.

That was other people prepared to "waste their time" and re-build something,
and reach out a hand of friendship. You did not have to rebuild
anything or change or compromise.

You continually look back. The split that happend and those responsible seem to
have burned themselves into your mind. Your sig on OC says "Let's forget the
past and move on ...". Yet what this seems to mean to you is "Lets forget
Beryl, and move back"?

Some of your favourite phrases are "I've been saying this for months/all along"
and "nobody ever listens to me" and "people disagree with me no matter what I
say" and many times in your frustration you have dismissed "the public" and
those with less than your level of technical skill: "anyone you picks up a book
thinks they are a programmer". Little kids who watch YouTube, and have
favourite cartoons, are users as much as corporate bosses in industry. In fact,
RYX - they are ultimately your future.

It is clear that people DO listen to you, and are patient with you even though
you often attack them so rudely, and provocatively.
To be saying the same thing for a long time indicates your unwillingness to
change, not the correctness of your argument. To feel like no-one is listening
to you could well be missing the point that they are listening to you, but you
keep saying the same thing and they just don't agree.

When you were sounding so positive about the wonderfull "agreement" that
"everyone" had come to recently about using compiz.org, then it was all about
the "future".

You pushed really hard to get a momentum going to make it happen , and yet in
this case you did not seem to worry about "rushing".

Then when people disagree, you counter their arguments not by being positive
about how your solution is best, but immediately switch back to
how all our problems stem from the beryl split. Or personalities. Or you say
"I'm tired of repeating myself" when asked questions. But you never tire of
repeating how your views are the ONLY possible solution.

Really RYX, I ask you, please prove your argument courteously, and calmly, and
most importantly providing facts not bluster. Even if it means you have to
repeat yourself.

Then, please, allow them to respond without coming back at them, give them a
chance to speak. If the debate goes off in a way you don't like I doubt very
much doubt it will be because people are unaware of your views.

Why not do what Erkin Bahceci suggests here:
http://www.ubaight.com/pipermail/compcomm/2007-June/001046.html

Remember this is someone who in the post before, you described as "neutral".

Jeff has already responded with some facts:
http://www.ubaight.com/pipermail/compcomm/2007-June/001049.html

Go on RYX - take up this very reasonable sounding challenge, and draw up the
two factual, technical lists as he proposes. I doubt I will be able to follow
the argument, but I feel I've probably said quite enough for now, anyway.

Thanks for listening RYX, and sorry to add to this seemingly neverending saga.
I just don't like to think of the end solution you go with being the result
just a few peoples' relentless use of "any means", however noble you feel end
to be.

Yours sincerely,
David

PS. As I was finishing drafting this post:

Once again is see on the ML that you and Mike D are hammering away like a
tag-wrestling team - stomping all over things with emotive arguments, strange
analogies and bluster.

Again dismissing users as easy confused idiots.

Please, please, stop using these heavy handed tactics.

Its just the same 2-3 voices pounding out the same tiresome, inflexible script.

If your *factual* argument persuades the experts, then I will have no worries
if Compiz.org is chosen to host the pluggins project. Though to be honest it
would have to change it's style and tone before I, personally would be
comfortable joining in there.
